Composite Bonding

Before & after of composite bondingBroken, chipped or cracked teeth can cause pain, sensitivity and other problems, but they can also affect your confidence. As your general dentist in Walnut Creek, Panoramic Dental wants to help you better understand your treatment options. Composite bonding is an innovative method that can help restore your smile. Keep reading to find out more about this safe and convenient restoration technique.

How Composite Bonding Works

Did you know that tooth enamel is the hardest substance in the human body? This durable layer protects the bone tissue inside your teeth. Human teeth can also exert up to 200 pounds of pressure in each bite. That doesn’t mean they’re indestructible, so problems like chips and cracking are common.

Composite bonding uses tooth-colored materials to fill in missing components or conceal cosmetic flaws. These resins contain a sophisticated blend of plastic and glass to add strength and translucency. Since the material attaches to the tooth’s surface, it becomes part of the tooth.

Our Step-by-Step Bonding Process

Step by step bonding processBonding is a convenient technique that can quickly restore the look and shape of your tooth. There’s no dental laboratory work required, so treatment sessions usually last between 30 and 60 minutes. Treatment involves a very simple process:

  • We clean the surface of the teeth to be bonded, ensuring they’re plaque-free.
  • An acidic gel is applied to open tiny pores in the tooth’s surface.
  • The gel is rinsed away, leaving a clean surface to bond.
  • We apply a thin layer of liquid composite resin in a color that matches the tooth.
  • A special curing light hardens the resin.
  • The application and curing process is repeated until it’s thick enough to shape.
  • We shape the bonded material with a dental drill, then apply a layer of polish.
